'RSVP to me' attends the 'My Fair Wedding' Season Premier Party with David Tutera!

Ok, so it's been a LONG time since our last post...we've certainly been busy - between new client orders, showcases, photo shoots for magazine articles, two more 'My Fair Wedding' episodes.... you name it, we're doing it!

But THIS particular blog post is LONG overdue! If you follow us on Facebook, you probably already know that we had the distinct honor of being invited to the 'My Fair Wedding' Season Premier Party with David Tutera back in October of 2011. 'RSVP to me' provided the wedding day stationery/printed materials for three episodes of WEtv's MFW so far, and we were extremely excited to be invited as VIP guests to this fabulous bash! My husband and I managed to squeeze two days out of our very full schedules to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.

We flew out to Los Angeles and checked in at the gorgeous Millenium Biltmore Hotel - a TRUE old-style Hollywood hotel! Glamour, grandeur, and old-world architecture are just SOME of the ways to describe this amazing hotel. Take a look for yourself (photos courtesy of 'Travels with Two' blog).

The afternoon of the Premier Party, my husband and I decided to pamper ourselves a bit at the Neihule Salon. While he relaxed at the Spa Bar with some refreshments and iPad service, I was pampered by the amazing staff at Neihule getting my hair and make-up done for our big night out!

Then it was time for the party....held at the beautiful Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Los Angeles - a historical landmark, and the site for many movies, commercials and TV sets. As we entered the foyer via the "vendor/VIP" line, we were greeted by two human red carpets - yes, HUMAN - draping down from atop a beautiful, wide stair case.

When we reached the top of the staircase, we were greeted by "brides" wearing the latest fashions from David's new wedding gown collection, Mon Cheri Bridals. We even got the photo-op in!

We then entered and were seated in a huge ballroom, with all the guests & vendors anxiously awaiting David's arrival, as well as the Premier Screening of the first episode of MFW's Season 5.

We were even treated to the amazing vocals of Frenchie Davis, the former American Idol contestant and Broadway Star.

As David entered, he was greeted with huge cheers. And as he spoke to the crowd, I was reminded of his sheer genuineness - a quality that stood out to me when I first met David, back in New Jersey. His love for his work & his family were also obvious, as he warmly spoke of his brides from Season 5, and then introduced his parents and his partner seated in the audience.

After we watched the screening of the "Make-a-Wish" Bride episode...(did you SEE that one?!! what a tearjerker!!), we were ushered into a ballroom, where we were greeted with delicious hors d'ouvres, fabulous music, and contagious dancing! When David made his way into the room, I was able to catch his ear for a few seconds before he was whisked away by his busy staff members - but not before he hugged me and thanked me for flying out all that way, and for my "amazing work"!! Silly me...I had the camera in my hands the whole time, and forgot to give it to my husband! So, no pics of the "encounter"! In any case, my husband and I enjoyed our time at the party; met some great new people; and got to chat with the girls from David's staff that I deal with when I am doing the episodes. Surely, an experience I will not forget.

'RSVP to me' is excited and happy to announce our new addition; Cassie Garcia as our custom invitations designer. We chose Cassie to be a part of our team because she is so closely associated with the exact design pattern and thinking that we already execute at 'RSVP to me', she has been the perfect puzzle piece to our designing world. Let's take a quick peek at how exactly she fits within the designing process at 'RSVP to me'.

Cassie Lee Garcia graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in 2009 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Packaging Design and an Associates of Fine Arts degree in Communication Design. During her time at FIT, she learned to apply her creativity to 3D design concepts. She chose packaging design as her major because it allowed her to think in different ways. She had to not only make the art beautiful, but it also had to be functional. After being in the program, she began to notice how much, as a consumer, one relies on the packaging to help the decision making process in purchasing products. She says: "The psychology behind it is pretty amazing!"

Her experience in the packaging design sector has not only helped her grow as a designer, but also personally as well. Cassie goes on to say: "Working with Kelly at 'RSVP to me' has really broadened my knowledge of designing in terms of etiquette and catering to exactly what the client is looking for, it's been really fun and exciting!"

Amongst her hobbies, she loves to golf, play soccer, she also has an interest in jewelry design and most recently she's been keeping active by running.

Q: What attracted you to the custom invitations design world?

a: "I work full time as a packaging designer for cosmetics, so I am used to designing in 3D. I saw it as an opportunity to do something new and exciting creatively. It is a completely different way of thinking of design."

Q: When did you realize your creativity for design?

a: "At a very young age I realized that I wanted to be a designer or some sort of artist. You would always find me painting, drawing or putting something together."

Q: When a client communicates their vision, how do you bring it to life for
them?

a: "I start by sketching a few quick ideas, trying to visualize what I think the finished product should look like. From there I find some imagery and fonts that complement what I have sketched and put the pieces together like a puzzle!"

Q: What are the 3 most invaluable tools or skills you have to have when
creating custom stationery for 'RSVP to me'?

a: "I don't think there are specific tools or skills, I just think it is having a creative eye for what you think the client will love."

Q: How has your past work experience prepared you for designing custom
stationery for your clients?

a: "In my work experience I have worked on everything from web design to packaging design. I think that having worked on such a wide range of design projects over the years has helped shape the design work that I do now."

Q: I believe quotes are incredibly inspiring. Which is your favorite quote,
famous or not, that has inspired you at one time or another to create your
designs?

"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Design is knowing which ones to keep." -Scott Adams

Custom vs. NOT... How to know the difference

cus·tom : [kuhs-tuhm] - adjective 1. made especially for individual customers; 2. made-to-order goods

The word 'custom' gets carelessly thrown around much too often when it comes to invitations.

I'm not here to discuss my thoughts on other invitation/stationery vendors and how they chose to provide their work, but I want to make a CLEAR distinction between "custom" invitations vs. those REFERRED to as "custom" by a vendor with nothing but books!

It always bugs me when I hear some say that their work is custom as I see them displaying nothing but invitation sample books or sample invitations that came from a book. "custom" does not mean picking out of a book, and simply putting YOUR information on it - that's just "personalization". If you look at the definition listed above, each word describes EXACTLY what "custom" means.

"MADE" - yes, made BY hand - created, designed, assembled by a PERSON, NOT a machine!

"ESPECIALLY" - for YOU! - you will NEVER pick someone else's invitation and they will never pick YOURS!

"FOR INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMERS" - starting from scratch, putting together papers, layers, embellishments to fit YOUR personal style, theme and budget.

Whenever I meet with one of my clients, you can be sure there will be no books present. I sit down with that person, talk to them and get to know what they are about, and what they want their event to be like. This gives me a better understanding of their taste and style. We then start to pull together their "custom" invitation based on this style, their colors, and any other 'tidbits' of information that will help create a truly unique CUSTOM invitation you cannot find in any invitation sample book! The possibilities in this process are endless!

Whether you choose my services or the services of another custom invitation vendor, please be aware that if you see a book being walked over to you, remember this very post...it is not custom if there is a design already in place with colors already picked for you. If you are looking for "custom" invitations, make sure you're getting the real thing!

The Royal Invitation

The Royal Wedding is right around the corner and we can hardly hold our excitement!

One of our favorites things here at RSVP to me is of course weddings! We are very closely involved with creating custom invitations and stationery that fit the personalities of our clients. I for one was a bit surprised when I first laid eyes on the Royal Invitation. Maybe 'disappointed' is a better word...

When I look at Prince William and Kate Middleton, I see a young couple who is anything but ordinary and really are only royal because, well, William is...They seem to be as non-traditional as anything the kingdom has seen. So it is a surprise to see such a generic invitation for such a historic event. If you ask me, I think the Queen had her hand in this one! I really don't want to say it is a horrible choice of stationery, because the invitation itself is beautiful, I just don't see it working for this couple in particular. I would have loved to see some Royal Blue incorporated with a layer or a metallic border, something to have it pop!

This would bring everything together nicely since Kate did announce her engagement in that gorgeous Royal Blue dress by Issa, a London base fashion label. Plus who can forget the blue sapphire engagement ring that once belonged to Princess Diana to round out the Royal Blue look for the Royal Wedding.

The Royal Wedding will be televised in the U.S. and live coverage of the event will air through BBC America on Friday April 29th at 6:00 am ET. If you don't have BBC America, E! Entertainment will be covering the event.

Come and see RSVP to me at the 2011 Designers' Wedding Showcase at Ramsey Country Club tomorrow - Sunday, February 27th, from 1pm to 3pm.

Not only will I have a booth set up there showcasing my latest invitation designs, but there will be several special design tables & an escort card display featuring my stationery!

I'll also be showing off my stationery seen on David Tutera's "My Fair Wedding" that has been airing on his show for the past month or so. BTW, that episode is on the 27th at 4pm and the 28th at 11am on WEtv. It's the 'Wizard of Oz' bride episode and you can click through to the website.

My visit to the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, New Jersey

I recently had the privilege of touring the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. I had attended a charity event for the Wish Upon A Wedding foundation a few weeks earlier and I met Marien Barker, the Sales Manager for the Inn. We hit it off and she graciously invited me to the Olde Mill Inn for a tour and lunch.

I had never been there before and I didn't know what to expect. As I drove up, I was certainly impressed by the grandeur of the hotel with its beautiful columns and entryway. I parked my car and proceeded inside eagerly. I found that the inside of the hotel was even more impressive than the outside. The place just exuded warmth and charm. The decor, music and the roaring fireplace instantly shook off the freezing cold of winter. I was met by a very pleasant and professional desk attendant who alerted Marien to my arrival. Marien met me in the lobby and after exchanging pleasantries, she took me on a guided tour.

First, we visited the Bridal Suite where brides-to-be prepare for the big day. When they say suite they mean it. There was a beautifully appointed living area complete with antique furnishings, a kitchen/dining area, and a separate large bedroom with a very comfortable-looking king bed. The suite even had a fireplace! A full bath with a jacuzzi tub and another half-bath round it all out. It would definitely be a comfortable place for any bride to ready herself.

Next, we went to see a guest suite that was very tastefully decorated and warm. I could envision my husband and myself enjoying a long weekend at the Olde Mill. Maybe someday soon. The Olde Mill prides itself on being "green" and they offer their 'Pure' allergy friendly rooms. As an allergy sufferer, I was pleased to hear about this trend in hotel accommodations and that the Olde Mill is at the forefront.

After touring the rooms, Marien guided me to the Grand Washington Ballroom. It's a large, neutral-colored venue that won't overpower your wedding decor. It's definitely not your "wedding factory" type of venue, it has a personal touch that just makes you comfortable - kind of like you belong there. I hope one of my friends gets married here - I'd love to attend!

We left the ballroom and went upstairs to the sales offices. Marien introduced me to Catherine, the director of sales for the Inn. She was very friendly and invited us into her office we chatted and I showed her some of my invitations. She loved them! Then the conversation turned to David Tutera. We all love him!

Marien then led me across the grounds to the Grain House, the Olde Mill Inn's rustic styled restaurant. It's an old farm house from the 18th century. It's a really charming place with exposed wood beams and old-world colonial decor. It's actually the original inn. The place was packed with a lunch time crowd. We sat down and chatted a little about the Inn and the weddings and events that are held there. The food was excellent!

After lunch, Marien took me to see the other wedding venue on the grounds. This one is located in the Grain House building. It's named the "Hunt Room" and it's a smaller ballroom than the Grand Washington. This room is perfect for a more intimate wedding and is again neutrally decorated and has an outdoor patio and gazebo. It goes right along with the comfort and charm of the whole place.

I'd been at the Olde Mill for two hours and it was time to get home to my family. I expressed my gratitude to Marien for the hospitality and I got on the road. On the way home, I kept thinking about how great the Olde Mill Inn is and I wished I would have known about it when I was planning my own wedding. I'll definitely recommend it to my friends!

I am so happy about the showing RSVP to me made on David Tutera's "My Fair Wedding" Sunday night!! The "Wizard of Oz" themed wedding that David helped create was absolutely fantastic and the bride Aime looked so beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw RSVP to me's wedding stationery prominently displayed in more than a few shots.

Sweet by RSVP to me's candy buffet at the Hard Rock Cafe - Yankee Stadium

Here is a picture of the candy buffet Sweet by RSVP to me created for a bar mitzvah at the Hard Rock Cafe at Yankee Stadium. It was a HUGE hit with the kids. They were literally "like kids in a candy store" as they devoured the delicious treats on the table. We did Reese's cups and Milky Ways, chocolate baseballs, candy coated chocolates, Mike and Ikes, taffy, licorice, sour straws, rock candy and lots more. The best were the 3 inch whirly-pops that looked awesome all lined up.

Definitely check out the Hard Rock Cafe at Yankee Stadium. It's a cool place.

A sweet response to 'Sweet'

I am so happy with the response I'm getting to the new 'sweet' candy buffet business. In the few short weeks it's been around, I've had some MAJOR venues interested in contracting my services.

A few weeks ago, I displayed a full candy buffet table at the Celebrate Party Showcase in Tarrytown, NY. Elise and Flora put on a great show, thanks!! There was enough candy for 200 people - and I brought along some custom decorated chocolates too! The response was overwhelmingly positive. People literally stopped in their tracks to take a look (and a taste) of the blue and green themed candy. I brought along 200 special chocolate favors to hand out to the guests of the show. They were completely gone in two hours. Unfortunately, the show lasted for five hours and I had to fight off the crowd the rest of the time to keep my display intact. Went through 150 brochures also....I'll bring more next time.

At the end of the show, I handed out the custom chocolates that I brought for the display. They were a HUGE hit. Of course, I had to eat some too...the brownie pops are the best!!! There also were chocolate covered oreos, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate lollipops and chocolate covered marshmallows on a stick (my husband's favorite). I met some great people at the show, including some venues that are interested in 'Sweet'.

Not only do I have an entirely NEW WEBSITE launch coming soon....but I am SO excited to introduce you to the amazing photography works of Anna Hurt on this website. I've already posted some of Anna's work with my HOLIDAY cards on Facebook, but wait until you see her work with my invitations and day-of stationery!

Anna is local to Allendale, and new to the "wedding scene"....but NOT by any means new to photography! Her innovative ideas and placement of objects....her eye for shadows and amazing additional elements to the photos...she's just SO talented! And I love nothing more than to nurture "newbies" to the wedding industry, especially when I believe so strongly in their work.

DAVID TUTERA wants 'RSVP to me' stationery!!

ok....so its been QUITE a while since our last post....but for good reason!! 'RSVP to me' has been SO busy!! not only have we been up to our typical "busy wedding season", but we also have SO many great things happening for us! first....our newly designed logo!! (see above) we love it! much more clean & sophisticated....and a great way to represent our new "direction" for design!! second.....in our last post we listed our magazine ads & upcoming press....well....there's MORE! keep an eye our for more details on a wedding for which we designed save-the-dates, invitation, AND wedding day stationery. this wedding will be featured in 'THE KNOT' MAGAZINE, spring 2011 issue!! SO exciting!! and finally....(for this blog post, certainly not for 'RSVP to me'!!!)....as the title states....THE David Tutera, of WEtv's "MY FAIR WEDDING" wants US!! YES, that's correct!! we are currently in the process of designing wedding day stationery (programs, place cards, table cards, and menus) for one of his weddings for the new season!! we are SO ridiculously honored!!

we will keep you posted on the airing date for the episode.....due out around February or Mid-March of 2011!!

as for more exciting news....keep an eye our for posts regarding our NEW website; NEW invitation & stationery pictures, etc.!!! it's ALLLLLLLL good!

introducing 'rsvp to me - elite'....better late than never!!

so, ive FINALLY gotten around to starting my blog! "late to the party"?? nahhh, i like to think of it as "making an entrance". besides, what better time to enter a first post than when i have so much news to share!

first....when 'martha stewart weddings' magazine publishes its very first 'destination weddings' special issue this month, 'RSVP to me - ELITE' will be included as a featured designer for envelopments! with a focus on new trends for pocketfolds, and beautiful "tropical" color schemes coming into play, i can help create the most unique invitations for a 'wedding away'.

second...i will also be featured on the 'westchester family magazine' website for their digital bar/bat mitzvah guide as well as in the hard copy for the fall issue of 'bar/bat mitzvah guide'! with my display at the 'celebrate party showcase' coming up on november 22 at the westchester marriott hotel in tarrytown, new york....it couldn't be better timing!

third....i am proud to annouce my NEW location for 'RSVP to me - ELITE' in beautiful Allendale, New Jersey. with a home studio now in bergen county as my main location....and still two "satellite" locations - one in nyack, new york and the other in freehold, new jersey - there are THREE locations to see what 'RSVP to me - ELITE' has to offer!
